The NCCAOM is governed by the Chief Executive Officer and ten Commissioners who are voted into office by general election. In approving nominations, the Nominating Committee considers diversity in ethnicity, gender, geographic distribution, professional experience, education and school of thought within the profession.

Bryn Clark, L.Ac., Dipl.O.M. (NCCAOM) began his medical career with the study of Japanese Shiatsu in 1989. Studies followed in a number of Asian Bodywork modalities. He has authored a chapter entitled “Asian Bodywork” in Contemporary Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, (Cassidy, Ph.D., Dipl. Ac., (2002), part of the Medical Guides to Complementary and Alternative Medicine series edited by Marc Micozzi, MD, PhD. He earned a Clinical Master’s degree in Acupuncture at Maryland’s Tai Sophia Institute (then the Traditional Acupuncture Institute) in 1998 and at the same institution completed a graduate credential in Chinese Herbology. He is a Diplomate in Oriental Medicine and has held Faculty positions in two ACAOM-accredited Chinese Herbology programs:the Academy for Five Element Acupuncture, in Hallendale, Florida, and Tai Sophia Institute, Laurel, Maryland. He guided legislative reform of Pennsylvania acupuncture practice law as Secretary of the Association for Professional Acupuncture, and also served as President of the Acupuncture Society of Pennsylvania, 2001-02. He helped to found the Congress on the Future of Traditional Medicines, which seeks to preserve Oriental Medicine practitioners’ access to their historical Materia Medica, amidst increasing FDA regulation. He was elected to the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) in 2002, and currently serves as Chair of its Board of Commissioners.
