Board of Commissioners

The NCCAOM is governed by the Chief Executive Officer and ten Commissioners who are voted into office by general election. In approving nominations, the Nominating Committee considers diversity in ethnicity, gender, geographic distribution, professional experience, education and school of thought within the profession.

Denise Hsu Dipl. Ac. (NCCAOM®)

Denise Hsu was born and educated in Shanghai, China. She received her medical degree from Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and has been trained in both Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine. Hsu completed her internship and residency in the Teaching Hospital of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Shanghai Second Medical University. There, she practiced
in Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture and Western surgical technology in the Orthopedic Department. 

Hsu has over twenty years experience in practicing acupuncture and Chinese Herbology. She is a certified acupuncturist with experience serving on both California and national boards. These experiences included working as a Board Member at the California Certified Acupuncture Association between 1988 and 1993.  She has been a teaching professor for the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco since 1990, and has served as chair of the Chinese Medicine Department since 2000. Hsu has worked for Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara since 1998 and also maintains her private practice in Sunnyvale, California.

Hsu wants to make her contribution to the medical profession by using her solid education in Chinese medicine to serve the AOM community. She currently serves on the Board of Commissioners for NCCAOM® and is a member of the Governance Documents Committee, the Professional Ethics and Disciplinary Committee, and as Board Liaison to the Acupuncture and Point Location Examination Development Committee.
