1. Why is the NCCAOM distributing the Foreign Language Exam Stakeholder Questionnaire?

Answer: The number of candidates taking the NCCAOM exams in Chinese and Korean continues to drop each year. It is becoming difficult to defend the psychometric validity of the exams.

2. If I complete the Foreign Language Exam Questionnaire will it help my eligibility for NCCAOM certification?

Answer: The distribution of the questionnaire is totally separate and independent from the NCCAOM application process. All individuals educated outside the United States must apply for NCCAOM certification using Route 2: Formal Education, International Applicants or through the Apprenticeship Route. Asking an individual to complete the Foreign Language Exam Stakeholder Questionnaire does not mean the individual is eligible for NCCAOM exams

3. Do States recognize the NCCAOM Foreign Language Exams for obtaining a license to practice?

Answer: Many states do not recognize the NCCAOM foreign language exams for issuance of a license to practice unless the individual also passes an English competency exam such as the TOFL exam. Some states require that exams be taken in English for licensure.

4. What about those who want to take the test in Chinese or Korean?

Answer: The Foreign Language examinations will be administered during the following two exam administration periods in 2012:

    • August 13 – 25, 2012
    • October 29 – November 10, 2012
