Dear NCCAOM Diplomates and AOM Community Members:
As you may be aware, President Barack Obama has made health care reform a significant legislative priority for his administration. His goals include preventive care, wellness, expanding coverage, lowering costs and patient choice. His emphasis on preventive medicine and wellness, along with affordability, creates an exceptional opportunity for our profession which so clearly meets each of the criteria that he has identified as important in his reform effort. Please visit the Obama Administration’s website for the latest information about his health care reform initiative.
President Obama has stated that he wants health care reform to be addressed by the United States Congress before the summer recess in August and that a bill should be ready for consideration by September 2009. This means that our profession must make itself heard now. This can best be done through contacting your legislative representatives in a variety of ways. In order to facilitate your participation in this important initiative, the NCCAOM is sending you a series of sample letters and other information that is the result of a collaborative effort by the American Traditional Chinese Medicine Society (ATCMS); Council of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Associations (CAOMA); and the United Alliance of the New York State Licensed Acupuncturists (UANYSLA).
Please use the information and resource on this webpage for your participation in this most important initiative:
NCCAOM has long supported participation in the legislative process as a method to advance and promote our profession. Our organization has offered testimony and support for numerous pieces of legislation that have resulted in the regulation of acupuncture as a profession. This is your opportunity to effect change and make acupuncture and Oriental medicine a part of the new health care reform which will benefit patients and acupuncturists throughout the United States.
