The NCCAOM, in partnership with the American Society of Acupuncturists, is leading the profession toward obtaining Medicare recognition through federal legislation, H.R. 3133, the Acupuncture for our Seniors Act. Currently, Medicare covers acupuncture services for chronic lower back pain, but cannot allow acupuncturists to provide these services until Congress grants the profession Medicare provider status. H.R. 3133 would grant acupuncturists this status, which would increase access to the profession—and enable more acupuncturists to treat Medicare beneficiaries.
