Applicants wishing to become NCCAOM Board-Certified in Oriental Medicine through the CA Route must complete quick and simple online application process.

Please note: Application processing time is 4 – 6 weeks from the date last requirement for CA Route has been submitted.

Updated Eligibility: Candidates for CA Route certification must hold an active free and clear CA Acupuncture license and pass the California Acupuncture Licensing Exam (CALE) no later than January 12, 2020. If CA Acupuncture License was obtained after January 12, 2020, applicant must request proof from the California Acupuncture Board (CAB) of having completed the CALE before January 13, 2020.

CA Route Application Process

NCCAOM Application for CA Route

All applications for NCCAOM certification are submitted online. Application fees are due at the time the application is submitted to NCCAOM. All fees are payable in United States ($) dollars and are non-refundable.

Online Profile. If you applied with NCCAOM at any point of time after 1982, you already have an online portal. Please contact NCCAOM to retrieve your login credentials. Creation of a duplicate account may cause a delay in your application processing.

Online Application. Application for CA Route is available as an orange button at the top of individual’s online portal.The CA Route applications expire one year from the date of submission or on December 31, 2021 (whichever comes first). All certification requirements must be met within the year or before December 31, 2021 (whichever comes first). The CA Route will close on September 30, 2021. Applicants with open, non-expired application on file as of September 30, 2021 will have time until December 31, 2021 to complete all requirements for NCCAOM certification via CA Route. Any applicant who has not submitted all requirements as of December 31, 2021 will not be able to complete the certification process. Application fees are non-refundable.

CA Route Application Process

CA Route Application Fee

Application Fee for CA Route is $750

NCCAOM Certified Diplomate. Applicants for CA Route holding an active NCCAOM Certification in Acupuncture or Chinese Herbology, are eligible for a application reduced fee of $400.

Approved Candidates. All candidates with open non-expired application on file submitted through a different Route of Eligibility, must contact NCCAOM for application fee adjustment via email [email protected].

Please Note. Application for CA Route is valid for one year from the application submission date or until September 30, 2021 (whichever comes first).

CA Route Application Process

Clean Needle Technique (CNT) Verification

Request a verification from provider of a certificate of completion for the original clean needle technique course.
Complete the Clean Needle Technique (CNT) Review Course: Acupuncture Safety if the certificate of completion for the original clean needle technique course was completed more than six years prior to the date of application for the CA route.
All certificates of completion for the original CNT course and the CNT Review Course must be sent to the NCCAOM directly from the provider.
CNT course verification must be requested only AFTER an application for CA Route is completed with NCCAOM.

CA Route Application Process

NCCAOM Final Approval

After CA Route application is processed and approved, the newly certified Diplomate in OM will:

receive a new recertification cycle assigned to OM certification
receive a confirmation email at the email address provided on the application
receive a Newly Certified Diplomate packet including an NCCAOM Wall Certificate and a wallet size ID card
become eligible to receive NCCAOM Diplomate Benefits

I understand that the California Route may or may not allow me to qualify for licensure in all states. Licensure requirements for the practice of acupuncture and Oriental medicine vary from state to state as some states require that candidates for licensure send their NCCAOM exam results, while other states require demonstration of NCCAOM Certification. As a result, it is the responsibility of the applicant to check all prerequisites for state licensure. The NCCAOM cannot guarantee mobility to practice in all states for California Route applicants, as each application for state licensure is reviewed by state licensing agencies on a case by case basis.

In no event shall NCCAOM be responsible for the Applicant’s inability to practice in connection with the Applicant’s failure to comply with each states’ licensure requirements. It is the responsibility of the applicant, before application submission, to verify the state regulatory licensure requirements for each state that they wish to become licensed.
