The NCCAOM & ASA Acupuncture Medicine Cultural Competency Task Force was formed to address issues of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) within our profession. This committee is co-chaired by NCCAOM Board member and former Chair, Afua Bromley, MSOM, LAc., Dipl Ac. (NCCAOM) & ASA Board member, LiMing Tseng, MAcOM, LicAc., Dipl O.M. (NCCAOM). In addition to sharing the results of our Cultural Competency survey, we are delighted to present the following experts as we navigate the DEI conversation at this Town Hall. |
Kira Banks, PhD Associate Professor in the Dept of Psychology at Saint Louis University Raising Equity, LLC, Co-Founder Forward Through Ferguson, Racial Equity Catalyst Institute for Healing Justice and Equity, Saint Louis University, Co-Founder The Saint Louis University Urban Underserved MD/MPH Program and Medical Curriculum- Training Grant Dr. Banks will explore the definitions of racism, bias and its effect on mental health and patient care. |
Ninochka McTaggart, PhD Co-Author of White Privilege: The Persistence of Racial Hierarchy in a Culture of Denial Geena Davis Institute on Gender & Media, Senior Researcher Chinese American Museum LA, Guest Curator University of California, Riverside, Former Lecturer on the topics of power dynamics of race, class, gender and sexual orientation Dr. McTaggart will speak on the topic of the effect of white privilege on healthcare disparities. |

American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, Member Board Of Directors Midwifery Education Accreditation Council (MEAC), Member Board Of Directors IM4US-Integrative Medicine for the Underserved, Former Member Board Of Directors Bastyr University, Former Adjunct Faculty Center for Social Justice & Diversity-Bastyr University, Former Co-Director Dr. McCarter will explore the concept of bias and the need for cultural competency in Acupuncture education as well its effects on the efficacy of practitioners. |
